It would help if people stopped equating the Pope with God. Christians, Jews and Muslims put their hope in the God of Creation. Those who have been misled put their faith in the Pope and the Vatican.
The Roman Catholic religion is based on the trust that Jesus built his church on the faith of Peter, "The Rock." (Matthew 16:18). Popes supposedly put themselves in the shoes of the fisherman, the disciple, Peter. However, so often, we have seen that a Pope takes on the mantle of God Himself - a travesty.
Indeed, people may continue to have faith that there is a God in charge of the universe, but the Pope is not God - or Jesus.
The Vatican is a great assembly of men taking on the political power to represent God as they see God.
