We are hearing of more and more cases where a child commits suicide due to being bullied at school. School authorities take little or no action. Teachers and principals look the other way. Some parents consider bullying a normal activity for school age children. The police rarely take an interest. After all, there is no law against bullying on the books.
If the Government of Canada would enact legislation making bullying a felony, this would not be happening. Furthermore, if a young person were not allowed to bully, chances are he or she would not develop into a dangerous criminal and a menace to society.
Letting youngsters get away with torturing their peers teaches bullies early on that cruelty is accepted and even empowering.
Again, it is the fault of our Canadian politicians for failing to give us the laws to protect the innocent. Age should not be a shelter for criminals. The punishment should fit the crime.
