DON'T PROSECUTE ACTIVIST WHO SAVED MINKS FROM SLAUGHTER

Goal: Overturn excessive prison sentence and fine given to individual who freed minks from a fur farm.

An activist who freed 2,000 minks from a fur farm has just received a three-year prison sentence. His brave act has been branded "terrorism," despite no violence being involved. Animals in fur farms are cramped into tiny wire cages, often with insufficient food or water, before they are skinned for their fur to be sold. The animals are often gassed, beaten to death or anally electrocuted. For liberating these poor animals from their cruel fate, the activist, named Kevin Johnson, has also been ordered to pay $200,000 in restitution to the fur farm owners for "losses" to their business.

The act of saving innocent animals' lives should not punishable. In fact, profiting from animal suffering is far more morally condemnable than standing up for their rights. Because Johnson has already been jailed awaiting the tribunal decision, he may be released early. Nonetheless, this brave individual should not be prosecuted for saving animals' lives.

Dear Chief Justice Garman,

Yesterday, Kevin Johnson was sentenced to three years in prison for liberating minks from a fur farm, where they would have been slaughtered had he not set them free. Animals in fur farms are gassed, beaten to death and anally electrocuted before being skinned for their fur to be turned into useless fashion items.

Johnson was also ordered to pay $200,000 in restitution to the fur farm owners, an excessive amount considering these people profit from the suffering and slaughter of thousands of innocent animals. Johnson should not be punished for liberating these poor animals from their cruel fate. We demand that his sentence be overturned.
