Who is running the Show ? The 1% or the 99%
The Koch brothers, whose more than $50 billion of wealth -- made largely from their petrochemical businesses exceeds that of the bottom 45 percent of Americans put together, and who make enough money every second to feed a homeless American for an entire year, are pouring ever more of their money into politics. Their goal is to shrink government, cut environmental regulations, and reduce taxes on the wealthy – thereby making themselves even wealthier and more powerful. Their political front, Americans for Prosperity, has already spent more than $30 million on the 2014 midterms, up to 10 times as much as any major outside Democratic group, according to the New York Times. They're building their own permanent political machine, including more than 200 full-time paid staff in 32 states.
The Koch brothers shouldn't be demonized because they have a humongous amount of money, or because most of it has been made in petrochemicals, or because of their right-wing views. As long as they've obeyed the law and played by the rules, they're entitled to their money and their opinions. But in using their vast wealth to alter those laws and rules, they are corrupting our democracy. For this they deserve to be widely denounced.
