When Bernard Sanders was growing up in the Midwood section of Brooklyn in the 1940's, many of his neighbors were first- and second-generation Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. Today, it's still home to a mix of immigrants and a growing number of Hispanics, but many have very different political views from the Vermont Senator.

Phyllis Carter - Sometimes, when poor people become rich, they get greedy and self centred, hanging on to everything they have and hoarding. "No one is going to take this away from me." It is sad and ugly. When I was newly widowed, unemployed, homeless and I had my first bout with cancer, a member of my family was angry because - she said - her (very successful) husband had to pay welfare for people like me. Yes. We are Jewish.
