REMEMBERING GEORGE DURST - FOR THE RECORD AND FOR THE SAKE OF JUSTICE

Bah! Humbug! Ebenezer Scrooge

"Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-
stone, Scrooge! a squeezing, wrenching, grasping,
scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! Hard and
sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out
generous fire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary
as an oyster. The cold within him froze his old features,
nipped his pointed nose, shrivelled his cheek,
stiffened his gait; made his eyes red, his thin lips blue;
and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice."

   A Christmas Carol - Marley's Ghost

In the 1980's, my husband, Cliff Carter, appeared on many radio and television programs and we performed in the Parliament of Canada.

CTV's Thrill of a Lifetime and RCA produced Cliff's first record album, Mr. Nostalgia, Cliff Carter. After decades of hard work, Cliff's talent was being recognized by millions of people. We were treated like royalty everywhere we went.

But when Cliff went to work at Le Bijou in Old Montreal, the owner, George Durst, treated him with contempt. He ground him down to the lowest wage possible and showed him no respect.

Cliff was always pleasant and gracious anyway.

Cliff has been gone 20 years now.

Jesus forgives. I do not forget.
