QUEBEC PENSION FUND - CAISSE DE DEPOT - THRIVES ON DEATH BY ASBESTOS,TOBACCO

For decades, governments conspired with the tobacco industry to cover up the truth - Death by tobacco. Government loves the taxes it gains from criminal enterprises like these.

Now Quebec is supporting the Asbestos mines even though we know that asbestos kills. After all, jobs in Quebec are more important than the lives of people far away. Who cares if people in India die? I do.

THE WAGES OF DEATH - IS A SIN

Everyone has known the dangers of asbestos for decades. Like oil and its plastic industry and tobacco, it is all about money, money, money.

If people get sick and suffer and die, they are just collateral damage, statistics. And if you can export your garbage to helpless people far away from home and share some of those enormous profits with despots and tyrants, what the heck. It's all about money and power and greedy men can sniff power from afar.

But there is another kind of power: It is truth. It is the ultimate power, and tyrants of every stripe fear it, even when it is spoken by the meekest among us.

TOBACCO IS A DIRTY BUSINESS
AND GOVERNMENT IS ITS ACCOMPLICE

Dear Editor,

It's about time the government went after the tobacco industry which openly produces, promotes and sells products that everyone knows to be deadly. The truth has been known for decades but it has been covered up again and again.

If the government cannot or will not legislate against tobacco, making it illegal, at least it can and should suck the companies dry, just as tobacco sucks the life out of its users.

There can be no justification for the tobacco industry to exist - except that there are profits to be made - taxes to be gained. It is a dirty, disgusting, cruel business.

The Americans will start putting pictures of cancer patients and corpses on their cigarette packages in September, 2012. It has taken them a long time to tell the people the truth. When I was starting high school in Montreal in the early 1950's, some kids were starting to smoke. I said tobacco could cause cancer. They didn't believe me.

Phyllis Carter   In the winter of 1993-94, when I was under treatment for cancer at an Ottawa hospital, I would see medical staff and patients standing at the entrance of the hospital smoking. The patients were under treatment for cancer. They stood out in the snow with their transfusion bags hanging - and they were smoking. When my husband was in intensive care in hospital in Montreal, the man in the next bed had just had a cancerous lung removed. There were all those tubes and wires going in and out of his body - and he was screaming - FOR A CIGARETTE. In Montreal, psychiatric patients at the JGH are accompanied by staff to smoke outside. I protested. I was told it was the best way to keep them calm. People talk about cocaine and marijuana. Tobacco is the scourge of humanity. Non-smokers should not be endangered by the addiction of others.
