One need not look any further than Bibipur village in Haryana to notice the change that technology has brought to the issues of social conflicts in our society. Sunil Jaglan is a Sarpanch of the Bibipur village in Haryana, a state which has the worst sex ratio in our country. Last week he came up with this amazing idea of a 'Selfie with Daughter' campaignto spread awareness about the issue of saving the girl-child.
The campaign received the selfies via whatsapp and the winner will take home a cash prize along with a trophy and a certificate. Jaglan says that he was inspired to initiate this campaign by the PM, Narendra Modi, who is self-confessed selfie addict.
Jaglan himself is a father of a young girl Nandini and has been proactive in spreading awareness about women's issues which plague our society. He is a post-graduate in mathematics and has been the village sarpanch for the last five years.
Thirty women Sarpanchs and Aanganwadi workers will be deciding the winner of the campaign which is being very well received in the state.
Haryana has 879 females per 1000 males as per the last census held in 2011 and Jaglan's effort has brought the focus back to the core issues of girl child education, female feticide and pre-natal health. Because of his efforts in this field he was awarded with Rs 1 crore as cash prize and Bibipur has hence come to be known as The Women's World.
