MY MOTHER, LEONIE RUBIN, HAD A BUTTON BOX. IT WAS A COOKIE TIN WITH A PICTURE OF A COLORFUL HARLEQUIN ON THE LID. THE BOX WAS FULL OF BUTTONS AND A FEW SMALL ODDS AND ENDS. ON A RAINY DAY, MY MOTHER WOULD LET ME PLAY WITH THE BUTTON BOX TO KEEP ME AMUSED. THAT BUTTON BOX WAS AMONG ALL THE PRECIOUS THINGS THAT DISAPPEARED WHEN DAWN MCSWEENEY TOOK OVER MY PARENTS' HOME.
THE BUTTON BOX WAS A TREASURE TO ME. BUT IT COULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT ANY MONEY TO DAWN MCSWEENEY, SO I FEAR IT WAS JUST GARBAGE TO HER.
I STILL HOPE FOR A SAVIOR WHO WILL RECOVER MY FAMILY'S TREASURES FROM THE THIEF, DAWN MCSWEENEY , INCLUDING ALL MY PRECIOUS JEWELRY AND MY DARLING HUSBAND'S NEW JERSEY DEPUTY SHERIFF BADGE AND HIS STETSON FEDORA AND OUR WEDDING PORTRAIT, OUR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS - AND MY MOTHER'S BUTTON BOX
