WE CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH IN QUEBEC

Does grammar matter as long as you are understood? The British education secretary, Michael Gove, thinks so. He's chastised his staff for writing illiterate letters. And he's instructed them to read an obscure style guide called 'Gwynne's Grammar' so that they'll write correctly. World Update will be speaking to the man who wrote that guide. Are you a stickler for proper English - or proper grammar - in other languages you speak? Tell us your thoughts and tune in at 0900GMT.

In Quebec,Canada, where extremists are smothering the English language, there is a movement to defend and restore our rights as free Canadians to speak English. But if you read the Facebook posts by those opposing the oppressive laws, you will see that so many of those who consider themselves "Anglophones" cannot speak or write English properly. How can we justify our struggle for the right to use the English language when we make a mess of it ourselves?
