QUEEN ELIZABETH HAS DONE AN ADMIRABLE JOB, DEVOTING HER WHOLE LIFE TO SERVING HER PEOPLE.
SURE, IT IS A GLAMOROUS JOB AND THERE WILL BE PEOPLE SAYING ALL SORTS OF NASTY THINGS ABOUT HER,
BUT DECENT PEOPLE WHO PAY ATTENTION WILL CONSIDER WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE YOUR EVERY WAKING MOMENT UNDER DEMAND, TO ALWAYS BE PERFECT, TO ALWAYS BE DRESSED FOR THE OCCASION, TO ALWAYS HAVE TO SIT THROUGH DINNERS AND SPEECHES AND BEHAVE PROPERLY, TO SMILE WHEN YOUR BACK ACHES AND LISTEN TO THE TROUBLES OF THE WORLD DAY IN AND DAY OUT AND DECIDE HOW TO RESPOND APPROPRIATELY.
SHE HAS BEEN DEVOTED AND LOYAL. THE PRETTY GEMS AND THE GREAT HALLS DO NOT BELONG TO HER. THEY ARE THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE. I ADMIRE HER GREATLY.
65 years ago today 25-year-old Princess Elizabeth became Queen of England when her father King George VI died in his sleep. She was crowned Elizabeth II in June 1953, but her moment of accession came in early 1952.
In late 2015 she became England's longest-reigning monarch, surpassing her great-great-grandmother Victoria.
