    On April 6, 1909 Robert Peary, Matthew Henson, their Inuit guide Ootah, and three other Inuit named Ooqueah, Seegloo, and Egigingwah, reached the North Pole.

    Phyllis Carter  - When my husband, Cliff Carter, was a boy of seven, he sat to dinner with Matthew Henson at the home of Mrs. Pickenpack, just after Mr. Henson returned from the North Pole. Mr. Henson trained the dogs for the expedition and it was Mr. Henson who reached the North Pole first, leading Peary there.
