A THING OF BEAUTY IN AN UGLY WORLD

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.

John Keats

John Keats

To possess a thing of beauty.
To have it before your eyes,
Or singing in your ear;

To touch it,
Run your finger tips
Over its fine surface,
To remember yet again,
That you earned it,
Or a loved one presented it
To you, in loving regard.

To know that this gorgeous thing
Is yours to keep and cherish,
A work of art, a thrill of music,
Fine porcelain, incandescent gems,
A thing of beauty that belongs to you
Permeates your soul.

My father taught me how to wrap
A fine china cup and saucer,
So they might be carried from my hands
Safely to a far away land,
And not suffer a chip or a crack.

All these decades later,
I can see and feel the delicate china
That I wrapped in white tissue,
Carefully encompassing -
First, the saucer, and then the cup -
Caressing each piece tenderly,
Shaping a soft pad of tissue
Around the ear - as my father taught me -
Laying the floral pieces gently
Onto a bed of tissue,
Inside the blue box.

The secret is in the air -
Not in the paper,
My father told me;
It is the air trapped
In the pockets of the tissue
That protects the delicate china.

This gift, one of hundreds,
Is lifted gingerly from my hands,
And carried by the buyer
To a beloved person somewhere.

But the memories of the china gifts
I wrapped when I was just a girl,
Linger brightly in my mind.
I know not where they are,
Or who delighted when they
Opened the blue box,
And found the china,
Perfect and gorgeous,
But the gifts I sent into the world
With loving care,
Remain here, vividly, in my memory.

Every lovely china cup
Reminds me of my father,
And all he taught me.

A thing of beauty is a joy -
When you have earned it,
Or it has been given to you in love.

There is no beauty
In the finest art,
When you have stolen it.

EVIL NEVER DIES

Hitler died,

Moussolini died,

Stalin died,

Pol Pot died.

The servant of Evil dies,

But the Spirit of Evil lives on.

The breath may leave the body
Of a tyrant

But Evil is like the wind,
Travelling where it will,

Exponentially.

It goes where it is welcome,

Or where it is feared.

It is thriving now.

UNDO THE CIVIL WAR AND SAVE AMERICA

FACEBOOK
August 13, 2011

A reporter asked me last week if I think that Michele Bachmann has the wherewithal to be a legitimate candidate for President of the United States. I hope that I have led a good enough life that I would be rewarded by her being the Republican nominee. That would be a great blessing.

Am I the only one who thinks it might be a good idea to undo the Civil War and separate the states according to Republican and Democratic majorities ? It seems to me from my perspective that the USA is really two countries, not one, and you torture each other by being bound together in an awful marriage.

A MESSAGE TO NEW BRIDES - REFUSE THAT DIAMOND RING

Publicity and advertising have promoted diamonds for prospective brides for decades. But does a new bride want to start her marriage with the blood of children on her hands? Every time she looks at that diamond ring, she must remember the suffering of these children.

Zimbabwe

  • Children and adults who are essentially enslaved are tortured and forced to work in the Marange diamond fields of Zimbabwe. Most of the profit goes to Zimbabwe's high ranking officials.
  • The government of Zimbabwe is to blame for the atrocities that occur every day in the diamond fields.
  • Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of diamonds have been sold illegally by the government but only $800,000 has been accounted for.
  • The Kimberly Process does not limit the sale of Zimbabwe diamonds because they technically are not blood diamonds. They are not used to fund wars.
  • When a diamond trading network in the U.S. considered banning the sale of Zimbabwean diamonds, Zimbabwe's government stated that they would sell their diamonds to Asian countries like China, India, and Russia instead.
  • The diamonds could boost Zimbabwe's economy if there was less corruption in the government.

Blood Diamonds And Torture Camps

Discovered in Zimbabwe

August 11, 2011

(Annissa Haddadi) – A torture camp allegedly run by Zimbabwe's security forces has been discovered by BBC Panorama, the news agency said.

An investigation led by the Panorama team discovered that the government's forces are running a torture camp in one of the country's richest diamond region.

The team says they have been in direct contact with people who had been in these camps and suffered severe beatings and sexual assault and made to work in extremely dangerous conditions.

Security forces were also accused of randomly setting dogs on the people who are held captive, while subjecting them to whippings.

"It is a place of torture where sometimes miners are unable to walk on account of the beatings," the report quoted a victim, who was released from the main camp in February, as saying.

"It is near an area known as Zengeni near Marange, said to be one of the world's most significant diamond fields. The camp is about one mile from the main Mbada mine that the EU wants to approve exports from," the report said, adding that the company that runs the mine was headed by a personal friend of President Robert Mugabe.

A second camp was said to be located in nearby Muchena.

The controversial Marange diamond fields are among the most significant known sources of the precious stones in the world.

Witnesses told the BBC that the camps had now been operating for at least three years, and that people held captive there are kept in an outdoor enclosure fenced-off by razor wire.

Marange diamonds were banned in 2009 by the Kimberley Process (KP), an international certification system to regulate trade in rough diamonds, however in June the company announced that the export ban on diamonds from two Marange mines had been lifted.

According to Reuters, the ban was lifted after industry regulators insisted the mines had met the minimum conditions requested.

The EU which had at the time refused to accept the decision has recently been pushing for the partial lifting of the trade ban on diamonds from two mines in the area, on the condition that the situation continues to be closely monitored, the BBC reported.

However fears have been raised as the 'torture camp' is said to be located about one mile from the main Mbada mine that the EU wants to approve exports from according to the BBC.

MOTHER EARTH WATER WALK - I'LL DRINK TO THAT !

Stephen Harper spent thousands of Canadian tax dollars to have built a pretty reflection pool to amuse his elite G-20 guests for a few days. But Stephen Harper is deaf, dumb and blind when it comes to the water problems suffered by Canada's native peoples.

Most people know of the terrible droughts of Africa and the pollution of the Ganges. But I think that few are aware that our own native Canadian neighbours suffer deprivation and disease from polluted water because they have no seat at the tables of power, no voice in politics or the commercial media to let the world know that their water resources are unfit for consumption by any living thing but bacteria and fungi. Water that is used and abused over and over again upstream, finally flows down to their territories carrying filth and disease. And we wonder why aboriginal people complain.

Two Anishinawbe Grandmothers, and a group of Anishinawbe Women and Men have taken action regarding the water issue by walking the perimeter of the Great Lakes.

The 1st Annual Women's Water Walk took place April 2003. Several women from different clans came together to raise awareness that our clean and clear water is being polluted by chemicals, vehicle emissions, motor boats, sewage disposal, agricultural pollution, leaking landfill sites, and residential usage is taking a toll on our water quality. Water is precious and sacred...it is one of the basic elements needed for all life to exist.

WHY SHOULDN'T YOUNG PEOPLE COMMIT CRIMES ?

They know it is highly unlikely that they will be caught;

And, if by chance, they are caught,

They become "the accused"

And are entitled to a lawyer.

And then they can claim they didn't do anything wrong;

And if that fails, they can say, they were impaired,
And they didn't remember doing anything wrong.

And if that fails, they can say,
They suffered from "temporary insanity".

It has to be "temporary"
Or they might end up in a mental institution.

And all their buddies and aunts and uncles will say,
"He is such a good boy (girl) "

At the same time,
The public cannot know the identity of the young person,
Who claims he (she) didn't do anything wrong -
While impaired and temporarily insane.

And he wasn't even there when it happened.

And with a loophole or two,
And overcrowding in the system,
And a lawyer who has a dozen other "innocent" clients,
Waiting -

The little criminal will saunter away -
Grinning.

And the public will pay for the lawyer;

And the little criminal will move freely among us,

And we will never know -

Until ....
