HOSPITAL SECRETS

When no one is paying attention, patients plead for help.

How long do you have to sit on the toilet or soak in a wet diaper before a hospital employee is obliged to help you?

An o
rderly named Gilford was being very rude to my room mate, a frail 88 year old patient. When I said I would report his actions, he "played" the lady so that SHE apologized to him.

He
was scolding her for ringing for help to be lifted from the toilet. She has only weeks to live.

June, July, 2018

It's Tuesday night. Shortly after midnight. I've lost track of the date.

My roommate
rings for an orderly. A woman comes into the room in the dark and demands in a harsh tone, "WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

A few minutes later, out in the hall, a man's voice rings out, "F-UP THE GIRLS! F-UP THE GIRLS!". He repeats the shout ten or twelve times while another man and a woman laugh and laugh and laugh. No visitors at this hour. Was the pig a mental patient? Maybe. Even so, why are the night staff laughing and laughing?

The F. word is "normal" in conversation here at the JGH. Meanwhile, My room mate sits in her wet diaper. A lady of quality, intelligent, well-spoken, loved by her friends, reduced to pleading for a staff member to change her diaper - ringing, calling, being ignored - day and night.

Do you know the pain of a bedsore? Do you know what it feels like to be humiliated and helpless? Do you know what it feels like to be denied the dignity of a human being just because you are old and sick? Do you know what it feels like to be told that you should make your complaints through legitimate channels?

No. Don't waste your energy. Report what is happening for all to see.
