SILENT SACRIFICE - AMERICAN CONCENTRATION CAMPS

WHILE THE NAZIS WERE TORTURING JEWS IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS IN EUROPE, ROOSEVELT IMPRISONED AMERICANS OF JAPANESE DESCENT IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS IN THE U.S.A.

Silent Sacrifice, a two-hour documentary, tells the true story of the Japanese-American internment camps.

Kept in silence for decades, the true story of the Japanese-American relocation in 1942 finally reveals itself in the ValleyPBS special Silent Sacrifice. The Story of Japanese American Incarceration in California's San Joaquin Valley and Beyond exposes the truth behind one of the darkest periods in America's history.

After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, losing America's trust and causing thousands of casualties, the Japanese-Americans who considered the United States to be their home were stripped of their citizenship. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Order 9066, which resulted in 120,000 innocent people of Japanese ancestry to relocate to concentration camps, leaving behind their friends, schools, and jobs.

The documentary reveals never before seen photographs and footage of what it was like for Japanese-Americans to be taken from their homes and incarcerated in camps. The two-hour video focuses on several Japanese-Americans' journeys through their experience and the hardships they endured.

This documentary completely changed my perspective on the challenges the Japanese-Americans went through. I had learned about World War II in history class but I never understood the magnitude of the situation until I watched the footage with my own eyes.

The video started with the couple, Saburo and Marion Masada, traveling to the site of Jerome Relocation Camp, one of many in Arkansas, in remembrance of their ancestors.

They both were born and raised on farms in California. But on March 16 of 1942, the couple, along with many other Japanese-American citizens, were trucked off to an internment camp located right here in Fresno, CA. The Fresno fairgrounds were once the home of 5,000 residents detained on the property.

The images and videos depicting the horrors they went through shocked me. It was hard to imagine that a place in my hometown full of fun was once a concentration camp full of hopelessness.

Hundreds of containment houses lined the area, surrounded by barbed wire fences and multiple levels of security. Two-thirds of the prisoners were children, under the age of 15. Imagine thousands of kids living in confined spaces without their parents, ready to be shot if they step out of line. Not the ideal way to handle things.

America could have handled the Japanese-American situation so much better. They felt threatened and scared, and they decided to take it out on people related to their problem. It honestly hurt to watch innocent people stripped of their citizenship which they rightfully earned.

What really caught my attention was how many people were actually affected by this event. Not only were the Japanese-Americans impacted, but their children, and their children's children. Generations will remember this horrid occurrence, scarred by the past.

Our country should be more aware of the impact their actions can have on people. I know it's very relevant now and you can't please everyone, but we should try and think about the effect this will have not only on people today, but people in future generations.

This documentary exposes the truth about one of America's past mistakes and makes our generation more aware of the impact we really have on people. We acted on fear and because of that, it has affected generations of people. So what are we doing today that could impact our generations for the good and not repeat the cycle of segregation or racism?

SAUDIS MURDERING YEMENIS BY STARVATION

Yemen on brink of catastrophic famine orchestrated by Saudis

The Full Transcript.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

For the past three years, a Saudi-led coalition has bombed and battled Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who control Yemen's major cities. Yemen shares a border with Saudi Arabia and the Saudis receive military equipment bombs and intelligence from the United States and the United Kingdom. The war is at a stalemate but the consequences are a catastrophe for civilians. This week, New York Times photographer Tyler Hicks and reporter Declan Walsh documented the threat of a massive famine in their interactive essay "The Tragedy of Saudi Arabia's War," which included photos you may find disturbing.

Declan Walsh joins us now via Skype from Cairo. You're talking about an economic or an income famine - one that is preventable. You use one of the characters, Mr. Hijaji here to help tell the story. Tell us.

DECLAN WALSH:

We met Mr. Hijaji standing over the bed of his 3 -year-old son who was very seriously ill and his first son had actually died just three weeks earlier. The collapse of the economy really pushed people like Ali Hijaji over the edge.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

Encapsulate why this war is taking place in the first place.

DECLAN WALSH:

So the war started about four years ago, when this group called the Houthis seized control of the capital Sana'a in late 2014. That was a very alarming development for neighboring Saudi Arabia, which viewed Houthi's activity as a proxy for Iran. And from March 2015, you had the then defense minister of Saudi Arabia who sent Saudi warplanes to start bombing Houthi detect targets. And that was the starting gun for the war.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

You know, when you talk about these airstrikes, there is such significant damage to the infrastructure. That means that goods and services can't go back across that road including food.

DECLAN WALSH:

That's right. So one of the great impacts of the airstrike campaign actually, the greatest destruction, is the way that it is destroying the economy of Yemen. Millions and millions of Yemenis unable to buy even basic foodstuffs for themselves.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

You point out that the Yemeni government bank is in almost control by the Saudis.

DECLAN WALSH:

Yeah, this was one of the most significant actions of the Saudi-led coalition over the past couple of years. They stopped paying the salaries of about 1 million civil servants. That means you potentially have 7 million people who were affected by that decision, who live in families who no longer have an income.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

Finally, I want to ask what the considerations that The Times took. These are extraordinarily graphic images, these are not things that you often see in a newspaper.

DECLAN WALSH:

The Times took that decision very carefully. The paper felt that in this instance these images remind you that famine has not gone away and that in some instances like now, famine can be not a product of natural causes, not a natural disaster, it's a manmade catastrophe.

HARI SREENIVASAN:

Declan Walsh of The New York Times joined us via Skype from Cairo. Thanks so much.

SURGE IN ANTISEMITISM HIGHEST ON RECORD BETWEEN 2016-2017

TRUMP'S REIGN OF DESTRUCTION

Multiple people were killed and injured in a shooting Saturday morning at a Pittsburgh synagogue - a shooting that comes amid an increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the United States.

The suspected shooter, a white male, has been taken into custody after surrendering to a SWAT team at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

Local CBS affiliate KDKA reported that eyewitnesses heard the shooter shout, "All Jews must die" before firing during the morning shabbat service, the busiest time of the week for most synagogues.

No information about the shooter's motive has been confirmed yet by authorities, and initial eyewitness accounts sometimes turn out to be wrong as the investigation unfolds. Still, this shooting comes amid a steady increase in anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes since the 2016 presidential campaign season and, in particular, the inauguration of Donald Trump. The FBI found that in 2016, the most recent year for which data was available, there had been an increase of almost 5 percent in hate crimes since 2015, and 10 percent since 2014. Of the 1,273 crimes for which the FBI found a motivation of religious hatred (about 20 percent of the total), half were against Jews.

In the last year for which complete data is available, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an advocacy group dedicated to combatting anti-Semitism, found that there had been 1,986 reported anti-Semitic incidents in the United States that year, including acts of vandalism as well as physical violence. That figure was a 57 percent increase from 2016, which itself had seen a 35 percent uptick in incidents from 2015.

The surge between 2016 and 2017 was the highest increase in incidents on-record since the ADL started reporting on them in 1979. Between mid 2015 and mid 2016, as the 2016 presidential campaign reached a fever pitch, more than 800 journalists received a staggering 19,000 anti-Semitic messages on Twitter.

During events like the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, right-wing extremists openly recited Nazi slogans and carried Nazi paraphernalia.

Incendiary rhetoric has remained intense throughout 2018. The verbal attacks against liberal billionaire philanthropist George Soros, who is Jewish, and whose political against activities have become the subject of a number of far-right conspiracy theories, have hit a fever pitch.

This month alone, Donald Trump publicly blamed Soros for funding the activist opposition to the nomination of now-Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of multiple instances of sexual assault. More recently, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as well as Kelly Johnson, an executive vice president for Campbell's Soup, blamed Soros for financially supporting the Honduran migrant caravan making its way to the United States border, accusing Soros of being in control of migrants and refugees.

Soros was among the recipients of a series of mailed pipe bombs sent to prominent left-wing media outlets and politicians, including the Clintons and Barack Obama this week. A Florida man who openly aired his right-wing views on Twitter and elsewhere, Cesar Sayoc, was arrested Friday and charged for allegedly carrying out the bombings.

AMERICA ! AMERICA UBER ALLES ! - A NAZI BY ANY OTHER NAME ...

Trump can't hide the truth about himself. It slips out of his mouth uncontrollably.

                               Image result for photo hitler

At a rally in Houston Monday night for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, President Donald Trump said this:

"A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly, not caring about our country so much. And you know what? We can't have that. You know, they have a word. It sort of became old-fashioned. It's called a nationalist. And I say, really, we're not supposed to use that word. You know what I am? I'm a nationalist, OK? I'm a nationalist.

Donald Trump said Tuesday that he's "proud" to be a nationalist and denied that the descriptor is weighted with any racial undertones.

TRUMP INVITES NUCLEAR WAR

WILL TRUMP BE IN HIS BOMB SHELTER OR AN INSANE ASYLUM WHEN THE NUCLEAR BOMBS START DROPPING?

President Donald Trump told reporters Monday that the United States would increase its nuclear arsenal until other nations "come to their senses," threatening an arms race days after he said he would withdraw the US from a Cold War nuclear treaty.
"Until people come to their senses, we will build it up," Trump said from outside the White House.
Trump announced over the weekend that he intended to pull the US out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia and accused Russia of violating the deal.
Some observers, including Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker, have said the announcement could be a move to push Russia into compliance, and Trump, in his comments on Monday, said he hoped to include China in the arrangement.
Trump repeated on Monday that Russia had not adhered to the Cold War-era treaty and said his vow to increase the US nuclear stockpile included a posture against China as well.
"It's a threat to whoever you want," Trump said. "And it includes China, and it includes Russia, and it includes anybody else that wants to play that game. You can't do that. You can't play that game on me."
Trump noted that China was not a party to the agreement, but said, "They should be included."
Russia has denied it is in violation of the treaty, and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev -- who signed the deal with US President Ronald Reagan in 1987 -- said the US announcement was "very irresponsible."

    NAZIS ENJOYED LIFE IN CANADA

Hitler's foreign minister was once part of Ottawa's high society

There has certainly been no shortage of cads, crooks, swindlers, murderers and worse who over the years have called Ottawa home, but none has come close to reaching the infamy attached to a young man who, a century ago, floated through this city's social circles with a handsome and athletic ease.

It's highly unlikely that guests at the Rideau Hall parties he attended back then had any inkling of what the "great future" of which he boasted actually held in store for him, that Joachim Ribbentrop would one day become one of Adolf Hitler's closest right-hand men and most rabid bootlickers as well as Nazi Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs and that, following the Second World War, he would be hanged for crimes against peace, deliberately planning a war of aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

"Rib" or "Ribben," as his friends called him (he acquired the noble "von" prefix to his surname later, in his 30s, when a childless aunt adopted him), was 20 when he arrived in Ottawa. Five-foot-10 and slim, with blue eyes and wavy blonde hair, he was considered, according to one account, "quite a catch" among the eligible young women of Centretown.

Born in 1893 in Prussia, Ribbentrop's family moved to Switzerland in 1908, when his father, a career army officer, was dismissed for repeatedly criticizing Kaiser Wilhelm II for his alleged homosexuality. Eighteen months later, Ribbentrop and his older brother, Lothar, both of whom spoke German, English and French, were sent to London to improve their English.

In 1910, he came to Montreal, where he worked as a clerk for The Molsons Bank and for an engineering firm reconstructing the Quebec Bridge. He worked, too, as a railway car-checker and, in British Columbia, a logger. A bout of tuberculosis forced him home to Germany, but by 1913 he was back in Canada, this time settling in Ottawa.

    RELATED

Read the rest of the ABC Ottawa series by Bruce Deachman.

Exactly how he earned his living here remains open to speculation. He reportedly worked briefly as a public servant, a position obtained, according to an Ottawa Journal article following his death in 1946, "by 'a word in the right place' from an influential friend." He may have also resumed working for the Molsons Bank, which had a branch on Metcalfe Street at Wellington. He also started his own business here, importing and selling German wines and champagne.

At any rate, he quickly insinuated himself into Ottawa's social class. In December 1913, he helped Santa Claus hand out gifts at a May Court Club charity event. An accomplished violinist, he joined a local orchestra and soon found his name splashed in the social columns: "Mr. Joachim Ribbenstrop (sp) made his initial bow to Morning Music Club goers," the Journal wrote in April 1914. "In Romance, by Johan Svendsen, Pierrot's Serenade, and Wagner's Traume, he more than delighted his audience."

The following month, he took a role in the Kermess, a large charity theatrical production staged at the Russell Theatre to benefit the Victorian Order of Nurses. He dined, too, at least twice, at Rideau Hall, where he spoke with Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia, the wife of the Governor General, in her native German.

He lived for a while at The Sherbrooke, a rooming house at the corner of O'Connor and Slater streets, where he installed a vaulting box, swing and parallel bars in his room and entertained friends with his gymnastic feats. After moving to a private home on Daly Avenue, he returned regularly to the Sherbrooke and its residents with whom he had formed a regular "luncheon club," including a banker, a newspaperman, an Ashbury College master, an architect and public servants. They would occasionally go for evening walks or, some Saturday nights, play low-stakes poker. "Ribbons" encouraged them to start a consortium with him to open a chain of movie theatres.

He especially shone at athletics, competing at both the Minto Skating Club and the Rideau Lawn Tennis Club. With the former, he joined the national figure skating team in Boston, although he did not compete, for the international Ellis Memorial trophy. At the Rideau, he reached the semifinals of the city championships, nattily attired in court whites and a black bow tie.

His time in Ottawa was cut short when Britain, and thus Canada, declared war on Germany on Aug. 4, 1914. He was reportedly playing mixed doubles at the tennis club when he heard news of the declaration, whereupon he went home to pack, dined at the Château Laurier and left for New York.

A fortnight later, he returned to Germany, where he enlisted in the 12th Torgau Hussars, the same regiment to which his grandfather belonged. There, he wrote letters indicating his hope to return to Ottawa following the war, saying that he was "indescribably happy" during his time in Canada. "I left behind my property, my brother who was seriously ill, the business prospects which had just opened up, many friends, and a young girl I had wanted to marry."

He also left behind a few unpaid bills, including $10 he borrowed from James Sherwood, son of Dominion Police Force commissioner Col. Sir Arthur Percy Sherwood, shortly before his departure. Another debt — $156 to an Ottawa doctor — was later repaid, from Switzerland, while a third — 38 cents owed Ottawa pharmacist Harry Skinner for goods purchased by Ribbentrop on the eve of his departure — was reimbursed by an anonymous woman in Bath, Ont., in 1946, after the Ottawa Citizen revealed the debt following Rib's death sentence at Nuremberg. "Enclosed in this registered letter," the woman wrote in German, "you will find 38 cents as you have said that Herr Von Ribbentrop owed you that. It shall never be said that a German ambassador has not paid his debts."

Von Ribbentrop was hanged on Oct. 16, 1946.

This story was brought to you by the letter N, for Nazi, and is part of a series of 26 stories about Ottawa, one for each letter of the alphabet. Stay tuned. Next in the series: O is for Over the Top, as in arm wrestling.

    SHOCKING ! BETO O'ROURKE FOR PRESIDENT !

Just when I thought America was on an inevitable road to hell, I heard Beto O'Rourke speak.

Democrat Beto O'Rourke answering a question on family separations: "First, we can ensure that never again is another child taken from another parent coming here to seek asylum. Two, we can insist immediately that every single one of those kids is reunited"

Beto outlines 4 steps we can take on health care:

    1. Expand Medicaid
    2. Introduce Medicare to the exchanges
    3. Use our bargaining power to bring down the costs of prescriptions
    4. Get to universal, guaranteed care for every child, woman, and man.

11.5 million Texans under the age of 65 live with at least one pre-existing condition. That's half of Texans under the age of 65. We must safeguard protections for those with pre-existing conditions at a time when we're already the least insured state.

We need guaranteed, universal, high-quality health care for every man, woman and child so everyone can see a doctor, afford their prescriptions, and be well enough to live to their full potential.

Beto has been showing up across the state, taking no one for granted, writing no one off. Traveling to each one of the 254 counties of Texas. Listening, learning, sharing his ideas with those he wants to serve and represent.

We must ensure that never again is another child taken from another parent coming here to seek asylum.

Trump's wall won't be built in Mexico. It won't be built in the Rio Grande. It'll be built on Texan's ranches, farms, private property. Beto wrote a bill to protect our land and prevent this from happening.

When our country began a zero tolerance policy, Beto went to speak with those families who had been separated to ensure this state and this country kept our focus on them.

"I was born Robert Francis O'Rourke ... From day one, in El Paso ... If you are born Robert ... your community calls you 'Beto' that's my nickname that I've gone by for my entire life," O'Rourke explains, "This is part of who I am and where I'm from"

Everyone should be able to live up to their full potential. As the least insured state in the nation, Texas should take the lead on ensuring health care for all people.

As the least insured state in the country, we should lead the way on making sure everyone can see a doctor, afford their prescriptions, and get the care they need to live to their full potential.

Texas Democrat Beto O'Rourke tells CNN's Dana Bash at a town hall that he still supports impeaching President Trump: "There is enough there to proceed to a trial"

JOURNALISTS MURDERED - YOUR FREEDOM DIES WITH THEM

IF YOU WANT TO ENSLAVE MANY PEOPLE,
YOU MUST FIRST SILENCE THEIR VOICES.

Number of journalists killed in 2018 soars to 44

GENEVA - The number of journalists killed this year has soared to 44 in 18 countries during the first four months of 2018, up from 28 in the same period last year, the Geneva-based Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) said Wednesday.

PEC said it "deplored the dramatic increase in media victims as the world celebrates World Press Freedom Day tomorrow, Thursday 3 May 2018," adding the number of journalists killed from January to April has soared by 57 percent from the same period last year.

The PEC is appalled by the death of 9 journalists in two explosions in the Afghan capital Kabul on April 30 and strongly condemned "this heinous terrorist attack targeting journalists among the crowd."

An attacker, disguised as a cameraman, detonated explosives at the site of the initial explosion.

The most dangerous countries since the beginning of this year are Afghanistan with 11 killed, Mexico (4), Syria (4), Ecuador (3), India 3, Yemen (3), and two killed in each of the following countries: Brazil, Gaza (Israel), Guatemala and Pakistan.
One journalist was killed in the following countries: Colombia, Haiti, Iraq, Liberia, Nicaragua, Russia, Salvador and Slovakia. "Following the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta and Jan Kuciak in Slovakia, PEC Secretary-General Blaise Lempen calls upon states to take additional measures for protecting journalists by running independent investigations, coupled with follow-ups to reach the perpetrators and to bring them to justice at all levels."

    TRUMP WALLOWS IN SAUDI RICHES

    TRUMP ENJOYS SAUDI BLOOD MONEY.

No financial interests in Saudi Arabia? Trump has said differently before.

President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday to have "no financial interests in Saudi Arabia." Yet in his own telling, he has reaped plenty of benefits from the massively wealthy Saudi royal family.

Seeking to rebut claims his own ties to the Kingdom may be clouding his assessment of Riyadh's involvement in the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Trump tweeted Tuesday morning: "For the record, I have no financial interests in Saudi Arabia (or Russia, for that matter). Any suggestion that I have is just more FAKE NEWS (of which there is plenty)!"

For the record, I have no financial interests in Saudi Arabia (or Russia, for that matter). Any suggestion that I have is just more FAKE NEWS (of which there is plenty)!

There are no Trump Hotels or Trump golf courses in Saudi Arabia. But in the days before he became President, Trump was not shy about touting the millions of dollars he'd earned from Saudi customers.

"I get along great with all of them," Trump said of the Saudis at a 2015 campaign rally in Mobile, Alabama. "They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much!"

Saudi disappearance puts spotlight on Trump's business ties.

One instance - albeit far less lucrative than Trump's own telling - came in June 2001, when he sold the 45th floor of Trump World Tower to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for $4.5 million, according to a publicly filed deed for the transaction.

Six years later, the Saudis received permission from the New York City Department of Buildings to combine the residential units into a single space to house the Saudi Mission to the United Nations, public records show. The embassy's website lists the mission's address at a different location.

More recently, Saudis have been reliable customers at Trump Hotels when traveling in the United States. At the Trump International Hotel in Washington, which has served as something of an unofficial headquarters for foreign governments in the Trump era, a lobbying firm for Saudi Arabia paid the hotel more than $270,000 between October 2016 and March 2017.

The Washington Post also reported Trump Hotels in New York and Chicago have benefited from a rush of visitors from Saudi Arabia in recent months.

The President, who has no public events on his schedule Tuesday, is facing a crisis with a top US security partner. Saudi Arabia initially denied any involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance. But sources have told CNN that the kingdom is preparing to blame Khashoggi's death, which occurred in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, on an interrogation gone wrong.

Trump has ruled out halting billions of dollars in arms sales to Saudi Arabia, deeming them essential for US jobs. The President said Monday that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would decide by Friday whether to follow the lead of top bank executives and investors and withdraw from a high-profile economic conference scheduled for next week in Riyadh.

TRUMP INSULTS WOMEN – FILTH SPEWS FROM HIS LIPS

'Fat.' 'Dog.' 'No Longer a 10.' How Trump Talks About Women.

President Trump has a history of attacking women by mocking their bodily functions, demeaning their looks or comparing them to animals.

President Trump's latest attack on a woman landed in the final days of a congressional election cycle in which Republican candidates are already struggling to woo female voters

President Trump referred to the pornographic film actress Stephanie Clifford as "Horseface" in a tweet on Tuesday, adding her to a long list of women he has attacked by demeaning their looks, mocking their bodily functions or comparing them to animals.

Mr. Trump's verbal assault came as he gloated about a federal judge's decision to dismiss a defamation suit filed by Ms. Clifford, who is known professionally as Stormy Daniels. Ms. Clifford's lawyer responded by calling the president "a disgusting misogynist." Ms. Clifford - who was paid $130,000 through Mr. Trump's former lawyer to buy her silence about sex she said she had with Mr. Trump - replied on Twitter by using the nickname "Tiny" for the president.

Mr. Trump's tweet landed in the final days of a congressional election cycle in which Republican candidates are already struggling to woo female voters. The president's language is unlikely to be helpful to them.

Mr. Trump referred to Stephanie Clifford as "Horseface" in a tweet.

Although the president's comment was striking about Ms. Clifford, who has graphically described Mr. Trump's genitals in a recent memoir, it was hardly unique.

Mr. Trump has accused women of having "fat, ugly" faces and of repelling voters because of their looks. He called one woman a "crazed, crying lowlife" and said another was a "dog" who had the "face of a pig." He said Hillary Clinton's bathroom break during a 2015 presidential debate was "too disgusting" to talk about. He has repeatedly mocked women for being overweight.

"This rhetoric is the kind of thing that has turned off college-educated Republican women who voted for Trump in 2016, but have fallen away," said Debbie Walsh, the director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Calling the president's comment "adolescent," Ms. Walsh said that "you cannot continue to be a party in power if the voters that you are appealing to are white men over the age of 60."

Mr. Trump's turn toward juvenile mockery illustrates why even those Republicans who were buoyed by the bounce they received in the aftermath of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh's nomination were still cautious in their midterm forecasts: One can never guess when this president will veer off message, as he did on Tuesday with Ms. Clifford.

"To say this is unbecoming of any man, let alone the POTUS, is a vast understatement," tweeted Representative Ryan A. Costello, a Pennsylvania Republican who is retiring from Congress, referring to the president. "And to say this enables teenage boys to feel they have a license to refer to girls with such names is obvious. It's all very embarrassing."

Some of Mr. Trump's comments came before he was elected. Voters learned just weeks before Election Day that he had bragged that he could "grab 'em by the pussy." He has continued to make crude comments about women's bodies since taking office, repeatedly testing the limits of the public's acceptance of a president's locker-room vocabulary.

A White House spokeswoman declined to comment for this article.

Here are some of the president's most remarkable attacks on women over the years:

    Women's faces.

A spotlight on the people reshaping our politics. A conversation with voters across the country. And a guiding hand through the endless news cycle, telling you what you really need to know.

"Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?" Mr. Trump said of Carly Fiorina, one of his rivals for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.CreditGabriella Demczuk for The New York Times.

When he attacks women, as he did with Ms. Clifford in his tweet on Tuesday, Mr. Trump often goes after their faces.

As he battled his rivals for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump made fun of Carly Fiorina's face on television, saying that people wouldn't vote for the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard because of her looks.

"Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?" Mr. Trump said during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. "I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?"

Mr. Trump later denied that he was talking about Ms. Fiorina's appearance and told CNN that he was referring to her "persona." But similar remarks about other women have been a regular part of his repertoire.

During his long-running feud with the television star Rosie O'Donnell, Mr. Trump described her as having "a fat, ugly face." In 2016, he retweeted an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz, the wife of Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican who was one of his primary campaign rivals. The caption on the picture: "Images are worth a thousand words."

In a 1992 issue of New York magazine, Mr. Trump was quoted as saying that Katarina Witt, a German Olympic figure skater, would be considered attractive only "if you like a woman with a bad complexion who is built like a linebacker."

    Women as animals.

Mr. Trump referred to Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former aide, as "that dog" and a "crazed, crying lowlife

The president often expresses his ire by comparing women to animals, an effort to dehumanize his opponents that he also uses against men.

After his former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman published her tell-all book, "Unhinged," Mr. Trump responded by calling her "that dog" and a "crazed, crying lowlife."

It was not unlike language Mr. Trump used in the early 1990s, when he sent Gail Collins, then a columnist for New York Newsday, a copy of a column she had written. Ms. Collins, now an opinion columnist for The New York Times, recalled that he scrawled several insults on the column, branding her "a dog and a liar" and writing that she had "the face of a pig."

    Female bodily functions.

After a debate moderated by Megyn Kelly in 2015, Mr. Trump said that "you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."

At a campaign rally in December 2015, Mr. Trump called attention to Mrs. Clinton's bathroom break during an earlier Democratic presidential debate, eliciting cheers from his supporters.

"I know where she went - it's disgusting. I don't want to talk about it," Mr. Trump said. "No, it's too disgusting. Don't say it, it's disgusting."

Mr. Trump also suggested in August 2015 that Megyn Kelly, a Fox News journalist at the time, was tough on him when she was moderating a Republican debate because she was menstruating. The night after the debate, Mr. Trump said, "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."

And after becoming president and moving into the White House, Mr. Trump mocked MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski in 2017, saying that she had a "low I.Q." and that she had been "bleeding badly from a face-lift" during a social gathering at his resort in Florida around New Year's Eve.

On Monday, Mr. Trump invited a disturbing image when he told reporters that he would keep his pledge to donate $1 million to a charity only if he could "personally" test Senator Elizabeth Warren's DNA. "That will not be something that I enjoy doing," he added.

Weight and shape of female bodies.

Mr. Trump said that Arianna Huffington, the founder of the HuffPost, was "unattractive (both inside and out)."

Perhaps most common is Mr. Trump's fixation on the overall appearance of women. He often uses their looks as a way of diminishing their abilities, their intelligence or their effectiveness  - sometimes all three. Attacking a woman's looks has become his standard response to female critics and rivals.

After Jessica Leeds said in 2016 that Mr. Trump groped her on an airplane in the 1980s, he said "believe me, she would not be my first choice." Of Natasha Stoynoff, a former People magazine writer who said Mr. Trump accosted her during an interview, Mr. Trump denied it and said, "Check out her Facebook page, you'll understand."

In March 2012, Mr. Trump attacked Cher, the singer and actress, over her criticism of Republican candidates running for office, saying on Twitter that she should "stop with the bad plastic surgery and nasty statements."

That same year, Mr. Trump lashed out against Arianna Huffington, the founder of HuffPost, saying she was "unattractive both inside and out." In 2014, he reiterated that she was "ugly both inside and out!" In 2015, he again tweeted about "the extremely unattractive (both inside and out) Arianna Huffington."

Mr. Trump derided Heidi Klum, the German supermodel and entrepreneur, in a 2015 interview with The Times, saying: "Heidi Klum. Sadly, she's no longer a 10." She responded by tweeting a photo of herself wearing a "10" label on her T-shirt.

In 2012, Mr. Trump dismissed the actress Bette Midler as "an extremely unattractive woman," adding that "I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct." And as he watched the 2014 Oscars, Mr. Trump attacked the actress Kim Novak, writing on Twitter: "The last song was terrible! Kim should sue her plastic surgeon!" He later walked the criticism back by saying that she was "a wonderful actress."

Scott Reed, a veteran Republican strategist who oversees the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's political affairs, pleaded with the president on Tuesday not to get distracted by lashing out at women the way he has in the past.

"We need a strong dose of message discipline out of the White House for the next 20 days," Mr. Reed said. "If not, this midterm election becomes a crapshoot.

    BLOOD THIRSTY SAVAGE MURDERS FAMILY

But all the hunters care about is the fact that the world can witness the carnage.

TRUMP JOBS - YOU ARE FEEDING YOUR CHILDREN THE BLOOD OF YEMENI CHILDREN

    TRUMP'S BLOODY JOBS

The outrage over the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi has intensified the scrutiny of Saudi Arabia's relationship with the United States. A key question is whether any tension between the two nations would jeopardize Saudi deals to buy U.S. weapons.

Saudi Arabia's oil-rich monarchy is one of America's most important strategic partners in the Middle East and a significant patron of U.S. defense companies. Still, while the kingdom is the top buyer of U.S.-made weapons, the sales aren't quite as big as President Donald Trump has been boasting about.

Between 2013 and 2017, Riyadh accounted for 18 percent of total U.S. arms sales or about $9 billion, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. In short, Saudi Arabia remains America's No. 1 weapons buyer.

Trump, meanwhile, recently praised Riyadh's ambitions to buy $110 billion worth of U.S.-made arms, a figure that has yet to manifest in State Department or Defense Security Cooperation Agency announcements.

The president has cited the importance of the weapons deals, pushing back on potentially slapping retaliatory sanctions on Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi's fate.

"I tell you what I don't want to do," Trump said to CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, when asked about blocking arms sales to Riyadh. "Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon, all these [companies]. I don't want to hurt jobs. I don't want to lose an order like that. There are other ways of punishing, to use a word that's a pretty harsh word, but it's true."
