FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE JEWS , BUT I WAS NOT A JEW ....

January 1945: Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds is in command of 1,200 US GIs at a Nazi POW camp when all Jewish POWs are ordered to report outside the barracks to be shipped out to slave labor camps.

Edmonds ordered all his men — Jews and non-Jews alike — to report. Edmonds told the Germans: "We are all Jews here."
Irate, the German commander jammed his pistol against Edmonds' head and repeated the order. Edmonds replied "If you shoot me, you will have to shoot all of us."

He saved more than 200 Jewish soldiers from the Nazis that day – and he never told a soul after the war. Not even his family. His story would have been forgotten if not for a school report by his granddaughter.
