MADE IN THE .... CHINA . HELP !

On this blog, the reader will find my reports on the Best Buy Samsung computer monitor made in China that speaks only Hungarian.

Now, I am looking for help with my FLUID HDMI DVD player - also made in China. This gadget shows some DVD's in a normal fashion, but others have subtitles - and I cannot find any way of stopping the subtitles.

Page 11 of the User Guide, under Subtitle Language - it says - The subtitle language option enables you to turn subtitles on by default - (I never did) - as well as choosing which language ...etc. Select OFF to turn off automatic titles.... Well, I have selected OFF again and again without success. I tried OFF and I tried OFF, ENTER.

I also tried stopping subtitles using the SUBTITLES button on the remote (Page 8 of the User's Guide.)

Here is another example of stuff made in China. You probably know the story of my Samsung Computer Monitor that is made in China and only speaks Hungarian. Should we be manufacturing these things in Canada ? All in favour say, " Amen ! "

Since the User's Guide gives The Source, Barrie, Ontario, as it's address and no contact for tech support, I went on Facebook with this problem and my FB friend, the very active activist, Cheryl who lives in the area, put in a call to The Source there. Then she wrote to me saying, "They are laughing."

I must ask her why the folks at The Source were laughing.

Meanwhile, I am asking my readers around the world for tech support. How do I get rid of the subtitles - which - at least on the DVD player are not in Hungarian.

Stay tuned for the next episode ...

BE NOT CONTENT - DEMAND JUSTICE - PHYLLIS CARTER vs THE DALAI LAMA

Dalai Lama

There is a saying in Tibetan that "at the door of the miserable rich man sleeps the contented beggar." The point of this saying is not that poverty is a virtue, but that happiness does not come from wealth, but from setting limits to one's desires, and living within those limits with satisfaction.

I am a great admirer of the Dalai Lama, but I must protest any teaching that encourages people to be content with poverty. It plays right into the hands of those who hold the wealth of the world in their greedy grasp.

Why? When the Liberals were in power they didn't help me fight for justice, even when Marlene Jennings stated at two public meetings in Montreal in 2008 - "Mrs. Carter's rights were violated three times." You didn't do justice then. Why would I trust you now? Your way of dealing with injustice is to ignore it... or worse - to protect the rights of the criminals. ROCHE - ENDANGERING THOUSANDS OF LIVES FOR PROFIT - WHO WILL PAY FOR THIS ?

Roche Tamiflu's Effectiveness Unproven Due to Hidden Data, Researchers Say

Roche Holding AG (ROG)'s Tamiflu antiviral treatment may not be as safe and effective as the Swiss drugmaker says, according to independent researchers who asked the company to publish data withheld from public review.

While Tamiflu helps flu sufferers feel better an average of 21 hours more quickly after initial symptoms, it didn't reduce the number of people who went on to be hospitalized, researchers at the non-profit Cochrane Collaboration said today in a report. Though stockpiled to prevent the spread of flu, the drug hasn't been proven effective for that purpose, the British Medical Journal said in an article published with the Cochrane report ....

URGENT - SHOVEL ME OUT, MONTREAL

Every winter, Montreal drivers suffer the nightmare of having their parked cars buried by the city snow plows as they go about clearing the streets. Those who do not have garage space have no choice but to park on the streets and no control over what the city plows do. You can't stand out in the cold all night waiting to see when the plow will come along.

In the 1960's, some West Island communities had small plows follow after the big ones, clearing access to driveways. What a difference that made for homeowners. But Dollard des Ormeaux declared it was too expensive and suspended the practice, leaving residents with the enormous burden of undoing the damage done by the town's plows.

CAA will not shovel out your car. If you are physically unable to shovel out your own car and you don't have anyone who can help, you are left with only one choice - call a tow truck, and wait and wait, and pay the cost every time you get plowed in.

Now, what about all the young people in need of money? How many of you could shovel out a car instead of running to the gym? There is a real need for your help in Montreal every winter.

I propose that someone set up a web site - SHOVEL ME OUT, MONTREAL - a register, where young healthy people who want to earn some money could provide contact information and beleaguered drivers could call for help. It is such a simple concept. Why has no one done it yet?

Hi Phyllis,

I received your note from Ellen Roseman at the Toronto Star. I'm sorry to hear that you are having such problems with the monitor. We'd like to have a Geek Squad agent come to your home to look at the monitor- I think it's likely something that can be fixed, but understanding the challenges to date, this might be the best way to get to the bottom of the issue quickly for you.

Would that be ok? and what is a good day for us to schedule this?

Best regards,

Shannon

Hello Shannon,

I really appreciate your message but - as I have explained - I am handicapped and I have suffered a devastating trauma because of a robbery committed by a member of my own family. As a consequence, I never allow anyone into my apartment. I just need someone to give me a hand with the equipment and a drive to and from the store. I don't want this monitor "fixed". I want a normal one that works.

Why don't I trust anyone in my place? You may want to read about the robbery that destroyed my family. Not only did my own niece rob me of everything I worked for all my life - when I called 911, the Montreal Police officers I expected to help me, helped the thief instead. I need to have one small place on this earth where I feel relatively safe.
