We need bilingual signage in Quebec to encourage tourism in Quebec, as Quebec is but a small island in the ocean of English speaking North America. We used to have bilingual signage, but now everywhere we look the signage is in French only. It's very tourist unfriendly frown emoticon

• Celine Leduc - Gisele Harrison Carr does your mother live in Quebec???? If so she will get the documents in French only the only time she will get documents in English is if she requests them. I haved lived in Montreal North for 3 years and if we go to a restaurant the menus are French only we can get one in English if we ask. However, 90% of waitresses are bilingual. I have lived in Quebec most of my life and things have changed a great deal. In health care for example people have complained that they cannot get services in both languages.   Celine Leduc  - The petition against the OQLF is one petition that you may or may not agree with it is your choice. The OQLF Instead of making sure that French is spoken properly the "language police" is very busy banning words such as pasta on a menu, going after a business because the English language on a sign is the same size as English. When it first started the OQLF was offering booklets that offered useful terms and idioms correcting some "anglicisme" which improve French. These days it has become more and more against those who speak English or have bilingual signs in their stores. One thing that has changed in Qc because of law 101 the language law is that it is getting out of hand by this I mean that Quebec is slowly becoming unilingual French. I life bilingualism. One example microwaves in hotels must be French only no more ON OFF button, telephones are no longer bilingual French only even some products that advertise bilingual cookbooks when you open the box you find a French book only. Montreal might be friendly the people are nice but the laws not so nice. Gisele Harrison Carr the purpose of the group is to talk about women issues and comment discuss and hopely find solutions to problems that hurt women .   Phyllis Carter  - TRUTH IS USUALLY SIMPLE - POLITICS IS DESIGNED TO CONFUSE AND DELAY AND SMOTHER OPPOSITION. There is really only one issue here and it is not the purification or glorification or protection of the French language. That was a genuine issue decades ago when Eaton's had an apostrophe. Even then, as a young girl, I was refused a job as a clerk at Eaton's because I didn't know the French word for "kettle". The issue in recent decades has been to suppress and discourage and intimidate and deprive those Canadians living in Quebec - even for more than a hundred years - so that we would get out. IRAN'S FUTURE

The news is full of discussion and debate about the ability of Iran to produce an Atomic Bomb. Bibi Netanyahu is bitterly opposed to the deal that is now on the table.

But no one seems to have any "vision."

With a term of ten or more years in which Iran's nuclear activities would be closely monitored, some are worried that, after that, Iran would just build The Bomb.

No one seems to have considered that, during the ten years, the people of Iran might remember that there was a time when Persians were an ideal society where art and science and culture and architecture flourished and, in more recent decades, where beautiful girls were free to dress beautifully and move freely in the streets of Tehran without fear of being raped or slaughtered by fanatics.

And when they remember, the women of Iran may remind their husbands, brothers, fathers and sons what life can be like in a free society, what it would be like for girls to laugh and sing and study about everything freely and conduct business and drive cars and be respected as fully capable human beings instead of cowed slaves in black bags.

During the next ten years, Iran may return to sanity and freedom from fear of old men in white beards who exercise evil power by abusing God's name.

I know what I'm saying will offend some people, however with regards to the migrant crisis in Europe .. the migrants all wish to end up in countries like Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia which have the best social systems in the world. These people do not speak the languages of those countries. They do not have education for those countries. They are culturally totally different from those countries. Just as Angela Merkel of Germany says > all the countries in Europe need to take in their fair share of refugees. Those countries include Poland, all the countries of former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Portugal. And why not the rest of the world actually. Let them go to any of the South American countries or Asian countries, to South Africa. Northern Europe cannot be responsible for all of these people. But .. they know what they are doing. They want to go where the social system is the best. But .. this social system will collapse if there are too many refugees milking the system.

IT'S A DILEMMA - BUT HOW MANY LIVES HAVE YOU SAVED?

Even if it's one life saved by Steve Maman is good enough.
"How many you have saved?" my question is to so called critics.

Steve Maman is a Canadian Jewish businessman who has made it his mission to rescue Christian and Yazidi girls from ISIS.

In August 2014, jihadists in Iraq captured thousands of women and girls, and forced them into sex slavery. They are raped by dozens of men every day.

Steve heard about this unspeakable tragedy, and instead of simply expressing outrage like most of us, he took action.

Steve formed a nonprofit foundation called the Liberation of Christian and Yazidi Children of Iraq (CYCI).

"What motivated me is being Jewish, being part of a people that survived the Holocaust. We waited for six years for people to come and help us," Steve said.

So far Steve has raised over $500,000, mostly from Moroccan Jews like himself.

He put together a team of negotiators inside ISIS-held areas, who redeem the captives for $2000 to $4000 each.

As Rambam (the great Torah scholar Moses Maimonides) teaches, there is no greater mitzvah than redeeming captives, for the problems of the captive include hunger, thirst, lack of clothes, and danger of death. Ignoring the need to redeem captives violates these Torah laws: "Do not harden your heart or shut your hand against your needy fellow" (Deut 15:7), and "Do not stand idly by while your neighbor's blood is shed" (Lev. 19:16). (Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Matanot Aniyim 8:10)

Says Steve, "There are millions of inhabitants in Mosul and they're not all ISIS, so we, within those millions of people, have found teams that were willing to work with us in order to get those girls out."

Some have accused Steve of encouraging ISIS by making it profitable for them to kidnap girls.

Steve's response: "ISIS is worth today $4 billion. Do you think that my little two or three thousand dollars per child is going to help the power and might of ISIS? You'd have to stand up and tell the 1,200 survivors saved by Oskar Schindler and their 15,000 descendants, that they were liberated unlawfully because Oskar Schindler gave money to the Nazis."

Thus far, Steve has rescued 128 girls from ISIS.

In a recent interview, Steve said, "May God bless my mission with world leaders being aware of what I do and of what can be done. The ones I wish to help are praying to God after every rape that he ends their pain and humiliation. It is reported they wish they be killed rather than live with such a fate. God give them the strength to hold on to life for a bit longer until I get to them, God willing."
